Most CCTV systems do not fail dramatically — they drift. A camera slips out of frame, night images go milky, a disk quietly stops recording, and nobody notices until footage is actually needed. We take those systems on whoever installed them. Nine times out of ten the culprit is cable, power or configuration rather than a dead camera, so we diagnose first and only then talk about replacing anything.
What normally goes wrong
No night vision
Images are usable by day and unusable after dark — often failed infrared illuminators, a dirty or scratched dome, or spider webs and foliage bouncing IR back into the lens.
Cameras offline or dropping out
Intermittent loss on one or more channels, commonly from water in a joint, a damaged cable run, a failing PoE port or an underpowered supply.
Cannot play back or export
Footage exists but cannot be found, played or exported when it is needed. We correct the search, time and export settings and show you the process.
Remote viewing stopped working
The phone app no longer connects after a router change, an ISP change or a password reset. We reconfigure the connection and the accounts.
Picture quality has degraded
Blur, haze or a washed-out image, typically a dirty lens or dome, condensation inside the housing, or a camera knocked out of focus or alignment.
What a technician checks on site
- Cleaning camera lenses, domes and housings, and checking seals for water ingress.
- Checking and correcting camera aim and focus where they have drifted.
- Verifying that every channel is recording and that footage plays back and exports.
- Checking hard-drive health and free space, and confirming overwrite behaviour.
- Confirming the recorder time and date are correct — wrong timestamps make footage far less useful.
- Testing remote viewing on your phone and updating accounts or passwords if needed.
- Checking power supplies, connectors and any exposed cabling.
- Reporting anything that is failing so you can plan a replacement rather than be surprised by it.

What affects the quotation
We do not publish prices, because the same job varies widely between sites. A written quotation follows a survey, and these are the factors that move the figure.
- Distance — every metre between a device and the equipment position is cable, labour and a routing decision.
- What the walls are made of, and whether we surface-mount, reuse conduit or cut into a finished building.
- How much spare capacity you want designed in — leaving room now costs far less than a second visit later.
- What can honestly be reused: cable, power, brackets, a serviceable recorder or panel.
- Working conditions — height access, live premises, or evening work so trade is not disrupted.

What is included in CCTV maintenance?
A maintenance visit covers cleaning lenses and housings, checking aim and focus, confirming every channel records and plays back, checking hard-drive health and free space, verifying the recorder time and date, testing remote viewing, and inspecting power supplies and cabling. You get a report of anything that is degrading so it can be planned for rather than fail unexpectedly.
Can you repair a CCTV system another company installed?
Yes. We repair, reprogram, extend and maintain existing CCTV systems whoever installed them. If the original installer is unavailable or the passwords were never handed over, we work through it as part of the call-out.
My cameras record but I cannot find old footage. Is it lost?
Often not. Footage is usually still on the drive but hidden by the wrong search date, a mis-set recorder clock, or a channel that was excluded from the search. We check the clock, the recording schedule and the retention settings before concluding anything has actually been overwritten.
How often should a CCTV system be serviced?
How often depends on the environment more than the equipment. Cameras exposed to dust, rain, insects or direct sun need attention sooner than indoor cameras in a clean office. A yearly visit suits most sites; dusty or exposed installations benefit from more frequent cleaning, because a dirty dome quietly costs you image quality long before anything actually fails.
Do you supply replacement cameras and hard drives?
Yes. We supply and fit replacement cameras, recorders, hard drives, power supplies and cabling, and we will tell you when a repair is the better value than a replacement.
